Suffice it to say, the necessary payload can vary significantly from one hunt to the next, depending on the quarry. The toughest game, including grizzly bear and moose, may take more than 2,000 or even 3,000 foot-pounds of energy. Medium-sized game, such as deer and antelope, typically need at least 1,000 to 1,200 foot-pounds, and large game like elk and black bear require over 1,500 foot-pounds. Generally speaking, small game like squirrel and groundhog require a bullet that can deliver a minimum of 300 to 500 foot-pounds of energy. For any hunting trip, the right rifle is one that can generate enough power to deliver a clean and humane kill – but not so much that nothing is left to harvest after the bullet makes contact. ![]()

Diagnosisĭiagnosing a fracture to one of the leg bones usually begins with a physical examination and medical history of the patient. People at risk for osteoporosis should have a DXA scan to check their bone density. People with osteoporosis have weaker-than-normal bones, so that even a lower-energy trauma can cause a fracture. Osteoporosis is largely an age-related condition that causes gradual bone density loss. Osteoporosis, although not a cause of fractures, greatly increases the risk of occurrence, even femur fractures. Therefore the femur usually fractures only in high-energy trauma events such as car accidents, as opposed to more low-energy events such as falls from standing height, unless there is some mitigating circumstance. The femur, in addition to being the longest bone in the body, is also the strongest by most measurements. In general, tibia and fibula fractures are more common than femur fractures. There are many potential causes of broken bones in the leg. Some symptoms of a broken leg bone may vary depending on the type, location and severity of the fracture, but pain-which can be severe-and difficulty or inability to put weight on the injured leg are common symptoms present in almost all leg fractures. If the fracture occurs in the upper third of the femur or the femoral head (a protruding ball that inserts into the socket of the hip), the injury is technically considered a hip fracture. Note that not all femur fractures are the same. ![]() People who suspect they have fractured their femur, tibia or fibula should seek medical attention immediately. To prevent the relativistic passing of time while in hyperspace, starships used stasis fields attuned to hyperdrive levels to keep organic crews or cargoes "in time" with the standard galactic dimension. Shields also protected the ship from fatal collisions with interstellar gas and dark matter particles. Once in hyperspace, a null quantum field generator helped stabilize the vessel and kept it from prematurely emerging from the alternate dimension. Inertial dampers were used to protect the ship, crew, and cargo from being crushed by the tremendous acceleration of the jump. Both entrances into and exits from hyperspace created wake rotation and Cronau radiation that produced a detectable signature often used to reconnoiter fleet movements or by planetary customs authorities. ![]() Upon exiting hyperspace, an unknown technology was used to decelerate the starship. Ĭertain hyperdrives used antimatter as fuel, stored in special anti-matter pods, though it remains unclear how this integrated with other hyperdrive mechanics. The energy release caused ripples in the space-time matrix, allowing the ship to propel off the ripples into hyperspace. To enter hyperspace, the hyperdrive's horizontal boosters would provide energy to the motivator's ionization chamber to begin ignition that would release the radiation through the alluvial dampers. The hyperdrive motivator, the primary lightspeed thrust initiator, built up and modified the collected radiation in a fusion generator through several kilometers of charge planes, effect channels, or looped superconducting wire. The process of a hyperspace jump began with the collection of gamma radiation by the hyperdrive field guide. To enter hyperspace, the starship's pilot would enter commands via the paralight system, a combination of mechanical and electro-optical subsystems that translated the commands into a set of corresponding reactions within the hyperdrive power plants. The process of entering hyperspace was known as a "jump." The hyperdrive used a trans-physical effect to launch a starship beyond lightspeed and into hyperspace, making use of supralight hypermatter particles to make the hyperspace jump without changing the ship's complex configuration of mass and energy. Hyperspace was a dimension of space-time that could only be entered at faster-than-light speeds. This compound was specially designed to allow hyperdrives to withstand the continual stress caused by traveling between the dimensions of realspace and hyperspace.Įxploded view of a SSP05 hyperdrive generator, showing the charge planes and effect channels of the hyperdrive motivator The hyperdrive was generally built from a titanium- chromium compound. In numbers, the hyperdrive allowed travelers to traverse a galaxy spanning over 120,000 light-years in only a few hours or days, the exact travel time depending on a number of factors including destination, point of origin, route, and class of hyperdrive. The term described the engine and all components required for its use, such as the hyperdrive motivator or hyperdrive field guide. ![]() The construction and working principle of a hyperdrive were based on Hyperdrive Theory. The hyperdrive was thus a key technology in the foundation of galactic society, trade and war. The hyperdrive (occasionally called warp drive) was a vital starship engine system that allowed vessels to enter hyperspace to traverse the vast distances of space faster than lightspeed. ![]() ![]() We've featured the best note-taking apps.
